What is the Eco-region NW and who is it for
Results
The Eco-Region NW system has produced a wide range of data on the analysis of consumption and production, as summarized on the next page. It relates these to the overall targets set by scientific advice and social responsibility.
It has also produced some demonstrations of what may be possible for interactive tools. These are prototypes in various degrees of completion.
More than that, it aims to point towards a more ‘joined up’ information system for regional sustainable development. As in the diagram, this is a connected series of databases, models, visualizations and feedback functions.
In the future, users of such a system would be able to follow a ‘semantic web’ procedure – logging a request, following through a supply chain, looking up the trends, checking local conditions, taking a trading opportunity, sending policy feedback, and sharing with their neighbours.
The Eco-Region NW is still a long way off such a system. Hopefully it shows some of the possible steps along that way.
