Designing the future and understanding the present
What is the Atlas NW?
The NW Atlas is a long awaited web version of a project started in 1999, the 'Regional Interactive Sustainability Atlas'.
The aim was to build a prototype time-and-space travel machine. This would show users their region, and the effects on the region of their choices.
The NW Atlas now has 2 main components:
- for designing and mapping the future. This is an interactive model, a 'time traveler', a basic kind of 'sim-region', focused on the spatial development and resource flows in the NW region
- for mapping the present. This is a web-based 'space traveler' with a large library of thematic maps and views
