1. Past

Situated by one of the main traffic routes in and out of Southport, Lancashire, Town Lane is a former landfill site.

Although the site is noted for it's high ecological value (one of the few places in the country where one can see Red Squirrels), the site's history has resulted in the area being underused by local communities or visitors.

2. Present

Southport Commerce Park - the largest area of light industry and office space in the borough - overlooks the Town Lane site.

The Newlands project will be important to the local area with several residential communities surrounding the site. There are also allotments, currently increasing in popularity, around the edges of Town Lane.

3. Future

The development of a community woodland at Town Lane will improve the environment for local residents as well as attracting further investment to fully occupy Southport Commerce Park.

Town Lane is also a designated Red Squirrel Refuge and a feeding and breeding ground for several locally important birds.

4. Regeneration

Regeneration of Town Lane will increase the prospects for Southport Business Park. Town Lane will deliver investment from the ERDF Objective 1 funding in line with Southport’s Community and Crime Reduction Strategies.
