Site background:

This former landfill site is overlooked by Southport Commerce Park, making it of particular local economic value. Town Lane also has a great deal of ecological importance – it is designated as a Red Squirrel refuge site, and skylarks and Song Thrush have been noted feeding or breeding by the site.

The stage two surveys have now been completed on this site and the design plans and community consultations have also been completed, following a design planning workshop, by the Forest Commission. The construction of new sports facilities on adjacent land has the potential to bring considerable investment into the area and Newlands is in talks with the Local Authority about this to ensure there is cohesion with the project. Town Lane is one of the three sites to get a share of £??k from the successful ICEP Objective 1 application for capital investment this year.
