Ibstocks Tree
Size: 26 hectares
Location: St. Helens
Local partnership: Ibstocks Brick, Groundwork St Helens, The Mersey Forest, St. Helens BC
Economic benefit: Developments will complete a network of green spaces in the area, to improve the image of and values in the area, attract further investment and underpin solutions to the population drift formerly occurring in the locality.
Site background: Brickfields incorporates many of St. Helens’ post-industrial landscapes, including Lord St. Helens’ landfill and Buff Quarry and Ibstocks Roughdales Brickworks. Some works have taken place prior to Newlands to open parts of the site up for community use, and it is hoped that this site will link up with other community woodlands in the near vicinity.
The Forest Commission are to carry out their own assessment of this site to determine the amount of investigation required under Stage 2. Links have now been made with St Helens Metropolitan Borough Council, and work is continuing with landowners to develop tenure arrangements. Groundwork St Helens has finished the community consultation and the final design plans are being drawn-up by The Forest Commission and Groundwork.  The site is also included as one of the three sites  to get a share of £??k from the successful ICEP Objective 1 application for capital investment this calendar year.
